Southwest
The deserts of the Southwest and Utah hold many wonders and are an amazing landscape to photograph, perfect for creating stunning desert landscape wall art. My two favorite deserts that I've spent the most time exploring are the Mojave and Sonoran Deserts, but more recently the red rock canyons and plateaus of the Colorado Plateau, including southern Utah, have also captured my interest. The Mojave Desert encompasses most of Southern California and Nevada and is known for its isolated mountains, wide flat plains, sparse vegetation, and hot temperatures. Its characteristic icon is the infamous Joshua Tree. I spent plenty of time exploring and photographing in places like Death Valley, Joshua Tree, Mojave, and Anza Borrego. But more recently I've visited the Sonoran Desert. The Sonoran Desert is the quintessential scenery of the Southwest with a plethora of cacti, expansive plains, mountain ranges, and the iconic saguaro. In the spring I took an incredible photography trip out to the Superstition Mountains. In Utah, I've been drawn to the dramatic landscapes of Zion National Park, Capitol Reef National Park with its stunning fall colors, and Bryce Canyon's otherworldly hoodoos, especially beautiful in winter after a snowstorm. Zion National Park is located along the edge of a region known as the Colorado Plateau. The rock layers here have been uplifted, tilted, and eroded, forming a feature called the Grand Staircase, a series of colorful cliffs stretching between Bryce Canyon and the Grand Canyon. The bottom layer of rock at Bryce Canyon is the top layer at Zion, the middle layers are prominent at Capitol Reef, and the bottom layer at Zion is the top layer at the Grand Canyon.
