About the Artist
Matt Purciel is a fine art landscape photographer originally from California and now based in Utah. He specializes in capturing the raw, untamed beauty of the American West - from the iconic granite domes of Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada and the majestic peaks of the Canadian Rockies to the sweeping wildflower meadows of Southern California (famous for its spring superbloom meadows, like those in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve, and Carrizo Plain) and the vivid fall colors of Utah's red rock canyons and Wasatch Mountains.
A Lifelong Passion for Nature & Photography
A lifelong passion for nature and photography began in Northern California, where weekend adventures to Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, the Redwoods, and Point Reyes sparked an early love for the outdoors. Soon after, he picked up his first film camera and never looked back. A background in graphic design and art history sharpened his eye for composition, color theory, leading lines, balance, and dramatic light - elements he still draws from the 19th-century Hudson River School painters like Thomas Cole, Frederic Edwin Church, and Albert Bierstadt, whose romantic visions of wilderness continue to inspire his work.
After relocating to Utah, Matt immersed himself in the dramatic peaks, colorful canyons, and ever-changing light of the region. His photographs have appeared in Outdoor Photographer, Landscape Photography Magazine, Art & Fine Art America, and private collections across the United States.
I spend as much of my time outdoors wherever that may be in search of that amazing light and beauty. In pursuit of that brief fleeting moment when the glory of the heavens lights up.
My mission and goal is to bring the beauty of nature from your screens to the indoors.
