Death Valley Superbloom

The Death Valley superbloom of 2016 was incredible. Superblooms are rare events in Death Valley, occurring only when winter precipitation, temperature, and timing align perfectly. Death Valley is famous for its spectacular spring wildflower displays, but they are the exception, not the rule. Under ideal conditions, the normally arid desert bursts into life with fields of gold, purple, pink, and white flowers. While some years bring sparse blooms, flowers are never completely absent.

I couldn't resist returning to the same dunes multiple times to capture this prolific patch of pink verbena mysteriously hidden in the landscape. I visited Death Valley three times that year to experience the superbloom. It did not disappoint!
