The Eastern Sierra has some of the best mountain scenery and landscapes in California, a favorite for landscape photographers. Highway 395 is the main route for access, beginning in the Mojave Desert and heading north through the pastoral Owens Valley on the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada. With the Sierra peaks to the west and the Inyo and White Mountains to the east, this topography creates some of the most dramatic sunrises and sunsets in the state. This was one of those mornings when the light and color were hard to believe. The plan was to shoot Owens Valley for sunrise, and it did not disappoint! The alpenglow lit up the Eastern Sierra in an amazing pink hue.
