Thousand Island Lake is one of the most iconic high-alpine lakes along the John Muir Trail in the Ansel Adams Wilderness. After a long approach, we set up camp and waited for sunrise the next morning. The sky gradually filled with color as intense red alpenglow lit up the snow-covered Banner Peak and the surrounding ridges.
The islands dotting the alpine lake created beautiful compositions as the morning light spread across the scene and reflected perfectly in the water. It was a peaceful and rewarding moment after the effort to reach this special place.
This photograph captures that special sunrise at Thousand Island Lake when the intense alpenglow on the snowy Banner Peak and the reflection came together beautifully. Bring this Ansel Adams Wilderness beauty straight into your space so you can enjoy it all year.
