Mt Whitney Sunrise, Alabama Hills

Mt Whitney sunrise from Alabama Hills with vibrant purple lupine wildflowers in the foreground and alpenglow on the highest peak in the contiguous US.

I couldn't believe my eyes when I looked up and saw Mt Whitney glowing in that incredible sunrise light from the Alabama Hills. Not only was the highest peak in the contiguous US on fire with alpenglow, but the meadow was carpeted with vibrant purple lupine wildflowers.

The grape-soda-scented lupine filled the foreground as I rushed to find the perfect composition, stumbling in excitement to capture the light show before it faded. It felt so good to be back in the Eastern Sierra for a morning like this.

This photograph captures that special sunrise moment when the fleeting moment of light, weather, mountain, and wildflowers came together perfectly. No wonder John Muir called the Sierra Nevada, the "Range of Light". Bringing this mountain beauty straight into your home so you can enjoy it all year.
