North Lake is one of the most picturesque lakes in the Eastern Sierra, especially when surrounded by peak fall colors. What makes North Lake unique are the colorful aspens that encircle the high-alpine lake. If you time it just right, the fall colors are spectacular. It was made famous by Galen Rowell with his shot of the golden aspens photographed from here. Every year I head to North Lake to photograph the fall colors.
