Maligne Lake in Jasper National Park is widely regarded as the most scenic lake in the Canadian Rockies. After setting up camp, we kayaked the short distance to Spirit Island on a chilly, intermittently snowy morning. As the clouds began to clear, the iconic grove of trees emerged around the bend in the milky glacier blue water.
We beached the kayaks on the rocky shore and soaked in the majestic scene as light danced across the peaks. My camera was working overtime capturing the changing light on the mountains. Eight miles of paddling was absolutely worth it for this unforgettable beauty.
