Thousand Island Lake Sunrise, Ansel Adams wilderness
Thousand Island Lake, in the Ansel Adams Wilderness is the crown jewel of the Sierra Nevadas. We spent the weekend exploring part of the Ansel Adams wilderness, attempting to get a Thousand Island Lake photograph for a sunrise. Exploring this area on the backside of Mammoth was always on the list. It was a little bit of a trek to get out there climbing over 3,000 feet in elevation gain but well worth the beauty and sore muscles. That morning I got up in the chilly pre-dawn and waited for the alpenglow to illuminate Banner Peak reflecting in the perfectly calm waters of Thousand Island Lake. It was one of those moments you will never forget.
